Katy Dore
Katy Dore is an award-winning screenwriter, director and actor drawn to stories about people who learn the lives they've been told to want aren't necessarily the lives they were meant to live. The stories are told across various genres and formats, often with humor, always with heart--and occasionally with a body count.
Raised in a small logging town where a good chainsaw and a reliable truck were prized social currency, Katy’s restlessness led to a degree at Stanford University and an MFA from the Academy of Art. She founded a boutique graphic design and marketing firm before following a less stable--but more satisfying--career path writing for film and television.
Katy’s television drama series, THE UNSUNG, was in development with Quincy Jones Productions and Flavor Unit, with Queen Latifah slated to play the lead, prior to Quincy Jones’s passing. On the feature side, her script PIPER was selected for the prestigious Cannes Screenplay List. Katy’s horror script GOT YOUR BACK was one of four scripts selected from over 17,000 scripts for a live read at the Austin Film Festival. Among other accolades, she was also the Grand Prize Winner of the Stage 32 Short Scripts Competition.
Katy is the co-director and producer of GIFT OF FEAR, a feature narrative bringing global attention to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) crisis. The film screened at festivals worldwide and is available on Amazon. She has found notable success as the writer and director of short films. Her most recent short, ALOHA MEANS I LOVE YOU is available for in-flight and onboard entertainment on domestic and international airlines and cruise lines beginning in 2027.
